CEO Pay Disgrace

Posted by Aaron on April 27, 2007

AT&T CEO Ed Whitacre is going to receive a $158.5 million dollar retirement package which includes health benefits for life, $24,000 a year for a car, $25,000 a year for country club and use of a corporate jet. Last year he received $31.5 million in yearly compensation. All this, while AT&T employees are being given salary increases which fall below the cost of living, increased health benefits costs, reduction of advanced training and personal time off. The AT&T board justifies this by citing the company’s performance over the last year and over his long tenure.

This is the perfect example of corporate greed and how Executives are reaping rewards while rank and file employees get the short end of the stick, work longer and harder, only to see their families continue to struggle financially. This has to stop, and its up to all of us to see that this lavish compensation of CEO’s and Executives comes to an end while the rank and files employees struggle to make ends meet. John Edwards is the only candidate talking about this stuff and the more he does, the more it will resonate with middle and lower income Americans. This isn’t a democrat or republican issue, both parties are guilty of supporting and rewarding corporate greed. We need a leader who will stand up for all of us in the best interests of both workers, companies and the American Economy.

Murder By Any Other Name

Posted by Aaron on April 22, 2007

On the heals of the horrific mass murder at Virginia Tech, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the federal law banning "partial birth abortion." It can legally be classified as murder, which it is, no less than what happened at Virginia Tech. A national reporter in describing this procedure used the euphemism of "the fetus’ head being collapsed" prior to the birth of the body. The "inconvenient truth" is that the head of a full-term baby has his brains sucked out and the baby’s head is then crushed.

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision no less than three presidential candidates lamented the court’s curtailing of a woman’s right to choose to kill her baby.

We rightfully are outraged by the actions of a cold-blooded murderer in Virginia. Yet presidential candidates lament a law that would protect an innocent child from a horrific procedure that equals in despicableness the shooting in the head of innocent college students and very few are outraged or shocked.

We will try to understand the murderer at Virginia Tech as one who was mentally ill, diabolical and cold-blooded in his pre-meditated actions. How will we try to understand politicians and others who lament the criminalization of an abortion procedure that is no less horrific than what happened at Virginia Tech?  I disagree vehemently with John Edwards on this issue, but I support his candidacy nevertheless. He is the right man for America.

John Edwards for President

Apr 19, 2007

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – The John Edwards for President
campaign announced today that Joe Trippi will be joining the campaign
as a key member of the media team and senior advisor.

Campaign Manager David Bonior said, "We couldn’t be more excited to
have Joe join our team. He’s creative, passionate, committed and shares
John Edwards’ vision of an America that works for all of us."

Deputy Campaign Manager Jonathan Prince said, "Joe is a true
believer who has never been the kind of guy who sits around and waits
for somebody else to bring about the change he believes we need. And
that’s what our campaign is about. That’s the challenge John and
Elizabeth have laid before all of us. I’m glad Joe Trippi is one of
those who’s ready to take it up."

This is a very big deal and turn of events. Trippi is a brightt guy who was the driving force behind Dean’s grassroots campaign in 2004. Although I never liked Dean, I liked Trippi and respected him. Great News…..Welcome aboard Joe!
